Join us on Tuesday, July 22nd at 2 PM for an afternoon of stories, games, photos, prizes, and more fun surprises with Blades. Don’t miss this unforgettable summer event at HPL!

On Tuesday, July 22nd, Blades will join readers for a story, some game day fun, and crafts. Participants can design and make their own Bruins fan button, take pictures at the ice rink photo station, and more. A special library poster featuring Bruins player Jeremey Swayman will also be available.

We will also be joined by the UMass Men's Hockey team for this event!

The Hadley Public Library is excited and honored to have be one of just 12 public libraries from over 1,500 applicants by the Boston Bruins and the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners (MBLC) to host a special summer reading visit from Bruins mascot Blades.

As we all know, summer reading is one of the best ways to help children and teens avoid the "summer slide" and maintain skills they've learned over the academic year. It also helps them grow the skills required for their next year in school. Studies have shown that children who read just four books over the summer fare better in the fall on reading comprehension tests than their peers who read one or no books.

The Boston Bruins have been teaming up with the MBLC since 2009 for this annual Summer Library Program: When You Read, You Score! Since then, millions of kids, teens, and adults have participated in this statewide program.

The Statewide Summer Library Program is sponsored by your local library, the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners, the Massachusetts Library System and the Boston Bruins.
